A Labasa man was sentenced to 17 months in prison by the Labasa Magistrates court earlier this week for burglary.

Etuate Turanamo appeared before Magistrate Thushara Thennakoon on Tuesday.

He was charged with two separate counts. The first with a burglary and theft count, and another for going equipped for theft or property offence.

The accused had broken into a farmer’s property in Lajonia outside Labasa on August 22.

The court heard that the owner was out for a religious function between 7pm to 9pm when the incident occurred.

Turanamo was given 28 days to appeal.
