Young Players For Ba

The Ba hockey team aims to develop young players in future.
The team finished in fourth place in the men’s category during the Inter-District Championship at the National Hockey Centre yesterday after losing to neighbours Lautoka 0-1 in the playoff.
They earlier defeated Lautoka 1-0 in the pool rounds with national goalkeeper Lemeki Tabusoi boosting the side.
Senior player Nelson Johansen believes their motive is development.
“We are trying to develop young players to be involved with the sport since most of our senior players are retiring,”veteran Nelson Johansen said.
The Ba team is made up of players from the Naidrodro community at the Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC) compound.
Fiji Hockey Federation president Dr Robin Mitchell was impressed with the Western teams’ performance.
“These players play on grass and having youth players in their respective teams is positive for us as far as our development programme is concerned,” Dr Mitchell said.
