Police have apprehended a suspect who allegedly stole a knapsack containing passports and essential documents of a British tourist.

The incident took place at the Bamboo Travellers Beach Resort in Wailoaloa, Nadi, last Wednesday where Edward William, the victim, had stayed during his holidays here.

The knapsack was allegedly stolen from the resort’s reception area. Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed the arrest and said: “We have arrested a suspect in relation to the incident where a tourist’s belongings were stolen.”

She said some of the items stolen were recovered.

“The report was received and the officers assisted the victim in all possible ways and even to the extent of ensuring arrangements were made that allowed him to travel,” Ms Naisoro said.

A resort staff member who had recovered the footage of the man walking away with the knapsack had uploaded the video on Facebook. The video since then went viral on social media.

Resort manager Holeva Kean confirmed Mr William left last Friday after he was aided by the Police and the Immigration Office.
