Composer Shops For Others

Composer and singer 26-year-old Suliasi Uluilakeba lives alone at Cunningham, Suva.
However, when shopping he shops he always thinks of his friends who always visit him at his home.
“When I do my shopping, I also shop for my friends so that when they come home, they will have something to eat,” he said.
For Mr Uluilakeba who is a bachelor, he does his shopping at J Santaram once a month as he is always engaged with his band known as the “ Baravi Talei kei Waimalua”.
He is not working but lives on the royalties of his songs and also with the money he gets from their performance at social functions they are invited to.
“Our charge is $150 an hour.”
Mr Uluilakeba receives $1385 as royalty every month.
This $1385.00 he said he used it for his monthly shopping budget, his rent and what remained he banked and aid his contribution to the Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF).
When asked about his band group he said it was made up of street kids.
“I handpicked them as I have this talent of knowing good singers just by talking to people.”
For his shopping he puts a aside $400 as he always wants to have food in the cupboard for his friends.
He will always make sure that whoever enters his house eats healthy food.
According to Mr Uluilakeba he buys fresh fruits and vegetables sold at the Suva Municipal market.
“I want my friends to have fresh fruits when they’re with me.”
Cooking is one of Mr Uluikaeba’s hobbies and he says he loves to cook for the majority.
Every Sunday he expects his visitors to visit him and always cooks his favourite – chicken soup.
“This is my favourite dish.”
He said he chose J-Santaram supermarket for his shopping because “it’s clean, convenient and everything is under one roof.”
His advice to other shoppers – “Be sure that your food stock and vegetables are always available and buy fresh and healthy food.”
This will ensure that you have healthy meals all the time.
