The resignation by Fiji Sugar Corporation’s chief executive, Abdul Khan, will not affect the operation of mills or the Fiji Sugar Corporation.

This was the response of the acting Prime Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum yesterday when asked about Mr Khan’s resignation.

He said: “As you know that the mills do operate very much on their own.

“We believe there’s enough human resources on the ground to ensure there won’t be any lapses because of the resignation of the CEO.”

Mr Khan gave immediate resignation on Wednesday claiming of ill health.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said they feel the vacant chief executive’s position will be filled fairly quickly.

“We feel the CEO position will be filled very quickly as there’s quite a few people who may be interested and the right people who may be interested,” he stressed.

“And the fact is we do have an acting CEO and it’s not like that the CEO has left and everything will come to a standstill.

“As you know that Chairman of FSC Vishnu Mohan did announce the fact that Mr Khan has left because of some pressing health issues.”

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said, he understood after talking to FSC, the advertisement for the vacancy of FSC CEO will be coming out in the next couple of days.

Mr Mohan on Wednesday said Mr Khan resigned on the grounds of ill health.

Mika Biukoto is acting chief executive for the meantime.
