Newly appointed Nadi Town Council chief executive officer (CEO) Peter Dinning is confident to take on his new role to see the town declared a city next year.

“I am honoured to be appointed as CEO of Nadi Town Council and very excited about the future of the town and the opportunities it can present for the citizens,” he said.

He commenced official duties on October 11 .

Mr Dinning said moving Nadi Town to a city status would see four major strategic directions taken for the urban centre.

“The council will be working with the Ministry of Local Government, Housing and Environment with a major strategic focus over the next five years on the environment and economy and where possible improving the wellbeing of the people of Nadi,” he said.

“The strategies of the council will focus on delivering a Clean Green Future, Strong Local Economy, Healthy Lifestyle, and Resilient Communities.”

During the role as CEO, Mr Dinning will be working alongside Special Administrator Robin Ali to deliver a number of objectives including transitioning Nadi from a town to a city which is scheduled for declaration in late 2017.

Mr Dinning worked in Local Government for over 30 years including 12 years as a CEO.

Meanwhile, Mr Dinning stressed that the compactor truck donated from the people of Japan had given the council the value and pillar of strength in the race to seeing Nadi become a city in 2017.

“I will ensure that it is used to its maximum capacity and purpose of the project in rendering quality service at the grassroots level,” he said.

“We acknowledge the fact that other projects have been funded by the GGP programme to empower the people and the community from grassroots level.”
