A former New Zealand politician who is currently the Ambassador for Pacific Economic Development Shane Jones hopes the official visit by the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama to New Zealand will be a turning point in relations between the two countries.

A Maori chief (Matua), Mr Jones says it was time that the two countries kept aside their differences and worked towards better economic co-operation and development.

“We have had very cordial relations between the two countries and with the spirit of aroha, the friendship that we have over many years are still strong,” he said.

“Let us just let bygones be bygones, collaborate, create wealth, generate jobs and secure a economic future.”

Mr Jones said business houses needed to work closely and he hoped that the Pacific Agreement of Closer Economic Relations or PACER Plus is negotiated with all parties reaching mutual consensus.
