The Nadi Town Council has received a new garbage compactor truck from the Government of Japan this week.

Embassy of Japan Chargé d’Affaires, Tsuguyoshi Hada, said: “Nadi is known as the tourism town of Fiji and very soon it will become Fiji’s tourism city.”

He said the project will assist the Government of Fiji that has taken a lot of initiatives to improve facilities to make Nadi a new city.

Mr Hada said this has added to the increasing work load of the Council as the collection of waste has been outsourced to private companies.

Minister for Local Government, Housing, Environment, Parveen Kumar, thanked the Government of Japan for such boost in assisting the township.

Mr Kumar assured the Government of Japan that the new garbage truck given to Nadi Town Council will be put to good use.

“The new rear loaded compactor truck will enable safer and more efficient collection system, not only minimising health risks but the spread of disease by flies and rodents, in having an improved sanitary environment,” he added.
