Shelvin Prasad First In Family To Take Motor Sports Passion To The Tracks

Shelvin Prasad is perhaps the first in his family to bring his passion for cars and motor sports onto the tracks. He owns a 1.3L 5-speed manual turbo Toyota Glanza which goes by the registration ‘XTINCT’.

Mr Prasad comes from an electrical background and is a graduate in Electrical Engineering from the Fiji National University.

“I always wanted to own a turbo starlet since they are small, fast and fuel efficient. I am the first in my family to bring my passion to the tracks,” he said.

What makes the car unique? Mr Prasad said he has built it in such a way that it is his daily ride but is also his ride for racing on the tracks.

“I have not made any compromises with it to make it go faster. It has all the features of a luxury car with full leather interior, A/C, ABS, Air Bags and it is a complete street legal car.

“It has a stock motor with a ct9 turbo running on a low boost of only 8psi.

“So basically you can take your family out for a ride, go shopping and also give serious competition to other racers on the tracks.”

But maintaining and keeping a sports car is neither an easy task nor does it come cheap.

Mr Prasad told us that mostly all of his salary goes in it to boost his car’s performance or to maintain it.

“All performance parts and mods on my car are imported from USA. It has taken me almost a year to rebuild this car since I have to import the right parts,” he said.

Mr Prasad hopes to test the current potential of his car in the next race before doing any further upgrades.

He said his passion of motor sports and cars is mostly because of his friends who own similar cars keep pushing him to do better.

“Motor sports in Fiji is a growing passion and people are loving it more day by day,” he said.
