City Rangers proved to be the champion sector in the Lautoka Primary Schools Athletics showdown after staving off a determined challenge from Red Chiefs.

The team scooped 20 gold medals each for both the girls and boys divisions, with the majority of their wins coming from their strong track team.

City Rangers is made up of athletes from St Thomas Primary, Lautoka Primary, Central Primary, Drasa Avenue School, Zong Wah, Jasper Williams Primary and Lautoka Special School.

Red Chiefs include Lautoka Methodist, Delana Primary, Arya Samaj and Ghandi Bhawan Primary.

Red Chiefs managed 18 gold medals in the boys division and 17 gold medals in the girls section.

Coming in third with two gold in the boys division and three gold medals in the girls section was Sunset Highlanders who have only Natabua Primary School, Saru MGM and Adhra Sangam Primary.

Medals were competed for in all events.

The Lautoka Primary Schools Athletics Association secretary Eva Ravue said time trials would begin next week to select Lautoka’s best athletes to represent the sugar city at the Chow Games.

The meet was held at the Natabua High School.
