Suspect In Custody After Gun Allegedly Found Inside Home

Police have taken into custody a man from Labasa after a home-made 12-gauge short gun was allegedly found in his home.
Police Commissioner Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho confirmed that the gun was allegedly discovered with two live 12 gauge rounds.
“Last night, (Friday night) officers had gone to raid some houses for illegal homebrew. At one of the residence, it is alleged that a home-made 12-gauge gun was discovered with two live rounds,” Commissioner Qiliho said.
The 12-gauge shotgun is normally used for pigeon shooting but it is against Fijian laws to keep one without a valid licence or build one at home.
Police are investigating two fronts – how is it that the alleged gun was made and where did the suspect get live rounds from.
“Only licence holders are given certain number of live rounds and we are investigating how this man came to be in possession of it,” Commissioner Qiliho said.
More men have been taken into Police custody following similar raids in Labasa for allegedly making homebrew.
