The Lautoka football side bounced back with a 2-0 win over minnows Dreketi during their Vodafone Premier League showdown at Subrail Park, Labasa yesterday. The Blues lost 2-0 to Labasa on Saturday.

What happened: Blues started strongly as they needed a win to improve on their standing on the points table.

They never allowed Dreketi to settle down as they put on the pressure. The Johan Leewai-coached side missed the services of veteran midfielder Henry Dyer who was red carded during their clash against Nadroga on Saturday. Lautoka defender Zibraaz Sahib drew first blood in the 41st minute as they led 1-0 at halftime.

In the second half Dreketi tried hard to equalise but it was to no avail. In the 81st minute it was hardworking striker Valerio Nawatu who slotted in Lautoka’s second goal. The match was scrappy at times and seven yellow cards- four to Lautoka players and three to Dreketi were dished out.

Comments: Lautoka football coach Kamal Swamy said: “I think the boys’ performance is much-better compared to yesterday (Saturday) where we created a lot of chances but could not score.

Today when we had the chances we scored. We need to work on the midfield area, we have to be a little bit more aggressive so we can win the ball quickly.”

Dreketi manager and assistant coach Roneel Ram said: “The organisational structure is what we would look at but other than that the boys did well.”
