Fiji was chosen ahead of two other prominent tourist destinations to host a China-based beauty competition.

And what better way to host a competition as such than in the beautiful The Pearl Resort, Spa and Championship Golf Course in Pacific Harbour.

The China Girl 2016 Resource Integration Department general manager Johny Zhang said their other two options were Spain and Qatar.

“We chose Fiji because we thought our contestants would love the atmosphere here as Fiji is naturally beautiful and pure,” Mr Zhang said.

“We are also looking forward to bringing more tourists and business in Fiji for its economic growth in the future.”

The 10 Chinese contestants vying for the title with the prize being featured on the cover one of Asia’s top fashion magazines Vivi arrived yesterday with their crew.

The Japanese-based monthly magazine has a circulation of 645,000 and is published by Kondansha, said to be the largest publishing company in Japan.

It is published in Japan, Thailand, China, including in Chinese.

The finalists were whittled down from 60,000 entrants.

Unlock potential

The Pearl Resort staff members were excited with hosting them as this could unlock the potential of reaching out to the Chinese tourism market.

Pearl Resort general manager Natalie Marletta said broadcasting would also include other Fijian resorts and venues in Deuba.

“This is the first time to Fiji for all the entrants and crew,” Ms Marletta said. The China Girl competition is said to be the second largest model competition in China.

The final is this Saturday. Tickets are $115 per person which includes an hour cocktail party, seafood buffet, entertainment by local group Talei and Nem and the Rako Dance Group.
