Diwali Is About Unity: Bhatnagar

Assistant Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Veena Bhatnagar yesterday said the Festival of Lights that was celebrated annually across the nation was about unity.
“Diwali is reminder to us that it is our responsibility to look out for each other beyond gender, race, religion, age abilities and status and do what is right,” Ms Bhatnagar said.
“The story of Diwali highlights family unity, togetherness, good values, loving one another and standing for justice, fulfilling life for our loved ones.”
Ms Bhatnagar was speaking yesterday during the Diwali celebrations at the Fiji Brahma Kumaris Rajyog Meditation Centre in Suva.
“My ministry looks after five most vulnerable segments of the Fijian population: women, children, and people with disabilities, older persons and the poor,” Ms Bhatnagar said.
“And undoubtedly, in our everyday work we use principles that come out strongly in the story of Diwali.
“As we promote love and respect for our people when we advocate on the rights of women and children and call on their safety and a violence/abuse free society.”
Ms Bhatnagar said the ministry promoted family to safeguard the disadvantaged members of the families.
“We encourage communities to work on solidity to address social ills and assist those individuals and families that need that extra support for survival.
“I am to say, my ministry, encompasses the spirit of Diwali every day.”
Ms Bhatnagar wished everyone a Happy Diwali.
