Young surfers took to the waves during the opening leg of the Rip Curl Micro Grommet Series at Natadola.

Fiji Surfing head coach Ian Portingale said yesterday it was a fantastic day to see kids running around, swimming, surfing and having fun. He was grateful to their major sponsors Rip Curl, Jack’s of Fiji, Fiji Surf Co, Vatuvara Island, McDonald’s and BSP.

Portingale said the young surfers competed in the Under-10, U12 and U14 divisions and have turned their focus to the second round of the series which is set for November 5.
