Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts Mahendra Reddy on Friday stressed the importance of libraries in schools to improve the lives of pupils for their future.

“The library is the place that gives you unbounded knowledge and it place allows you to open up and help in using text books,” Mr Reddy said.

Mr Reddy was speaking on Friday while opening the new library and computer laboratory for the Malamala Public School in Nadroga.

“We need to uplift the bench mark of academic excellence and boost up the infrastructure,” he  said.

He also encouraged parents to take ownership of their children’s education.

Altogether there is a total of is 142 students and come from Yako, Malamala, Nawai, Nalovo and Sea Side who attend the school.

Sofitel Fiji Resort provided the joinery and paint work of the building while Radisson Blu Resort provided contingents and the books and Mr Iswar Chand (old scholar) the multimedia projector and Lautoka Sugar Cane producer association provided the Air Conditioning unit.

Head teacher Anitesh Singh said this was going to boost the morale of the students.

“We thank the sponsors and the Ministry for their kind donation that will enhance the learning of our students,” Mr Singh said.
