The family of a woman whose body was found last Tuesday lying on the road near Volivoli Village in Sigatoka are now seeking justice.

This comes after the family of Mereoni Kalini, 30, learned that the Fiji Police Force had classified her tragic death as a hit and run,

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said: “The post mortem was conducted on the 30-year-old victim with the cause of death consistent to injuries sustained from a motor vehicle accident near Volivoli in Sigatoka.

“It has been classified as a fatal and in this case a hit and run. Any bit of information is welcomed as it could help out investigations. If anyone has any information about a vehicle that may have damaged bumper or bonnet as it may be consistent to damage resulting from a hit and run incident.”

This brings the current road death toll to 44 compared to 52 for the same period last year.

Kalini’s sister–in-law, Ilisapeci Hanniesivo, is also pleading with the public to help them and the Police find the suspect and identify the vehicle that was allegedly involved.

“We don’t sleep well at night because we are still wondering what happened to her before she was found,” Ms Hanniesivo said.

“Even her youngest son, whenever she sees someone with long hair resembling her mum, she cries and wants to be carried by that person. Please, help us find the person who did this.”

Kalini was laid to rest at Voua Village on Saturday. She was originally from Vatusekiyasawa in Ra. She was a handicraft business owner at the Fiji Hideaway Resort and Spa. Her husband, Vinayara Ratubuli, 36, is a tattooist at Paco’s Tattoo in Sigatoka Town. She is survived by her four children – Alita, 12; Miriama, 8; Peceli, 6; and Isel, 1, and husband.

Police said Kalini was wearing a black and red Tee-shirt with jeans at the time of the alleged incident and was last seen around the service station near the Sigatoka Roundabout at around midnight with friends.
