Vakasama Making Mark

National rep Taichi Vakasama was a force to reckon with during the Western Region Group Invitational at the Nadi Sports and Social Club yesterday.
The Daliconi, Vanuabalavu, Lau lad caused a ripple clocking 2 minutes 17 seconds in the Open men 200 metres breastroke event to be part of the gold squad.
“I got good competition from my mates and the weather is just great,” he said.
He is part of the team to compete at the NSW Championship in Canberra, Australia.
“Improving my time is the aim and the competition from my fellow swimmers is the just the boost I need.”
He will be based at the Australian Institute of Sports (AIS) for two weeks.
Vakasama also competed in the 800m freestyle, 4 x 50m medley relay, 4 x 200m freestyle relay, 200m individual medley and 50m breaststroke.”
The Barracuda Swimming Club won the overall competition dominating from the first day, as they bagged 95 gold medals, 62 silver, and 23 bronze.
Fiji Swimming president Ben Rova was impressed with the performance.
“After the competition our track committee will collate all the results of the 120 swimmers and do the ranking according to their age group,” he said.
