Labourer Found Dead in Creek

A 35-year-old cane farm labourer was found dead in a creek in a rural area in Ba on Sunday.
Eroni Mudu, of Nabaquto village, near Navala, in the upper rural reaches of Ba, was staying with his brother, Apisai Nenewa, also a labourer at Benai-Koronubu in Ba.
A farmer, Chet Ram, said the deceased only came down from his village during the harvesting season to work on the sugarcane farms.
Mr Ram said Mr Nenewa and his wife had gone to the Benai-Koronubu Creek to bathe and returned home.
Shortly after, Mr Mudu also left to bathe and that was the last anyone saw him alive.
Mr Ram said the place in the creek where the deceased was found had a lot of stones and was only about 30 centimetres deep but beside that was a pool which was much deeper.
A student, known as Margaret, was crossing the area shortly afterwards and saw the deceased lying in the creek.
She informed Mr Nenewa and the Police were called in.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said a post mortem would be conducted to ascertain the cause of death as investigations continue.
