The first ever Turtle Island Rugby and Mixed Volleyball Championship was hailed a success last Saturday. This first tournament organised for the Yasawa Division was done in conjunction with the St Patrick Parish Bazaar which collected $66,000.

The theme for the championship is; Unity for Stronger Community: Play Together, Cheer Together, Eat and Laugh Together.

Twelve teams competed in the rugby championship at Vuaki Village. The Vonu Rugby Club won the championship over Paradise Cove 17-5. They walked away with $4200 and a trophy.

Meanwhile, FSC Rakiraki won the volleyball with a 41-34 win over Turtle Island. FSC Rakiraki coach Malakai Dalituicama said they were happy because the win was a stepping stone to their goal of setting up an association in Rakiraki. They won $1500 and a trophy.
