ANZ Celebrates Diwali, Fiji

Fiji has certainly come a long way in a short time and the signs are evident of a strong economy.
These were the sentiments shared by ANZ Regional Executive Pacific, Tessa Price, on Saturday as the bank hosted its annual Diwali Celebration.
This is Ms Price’s first Diwali in Fiji having been appointed to the role six months ago and it is the glamour and diversity here which caught her attention.
“I had heard a lot about our Diwali functions in Fiji, and as a New Zealander I am familiar with the festivities, but I had no idea how glamorous the whole affair would be!” she exclaimed.
“Witnessing the sort of cultural diversity and togetherness makes me appreciate even more the spirit of community and friendship that makes Fiji so special.
“As a bank that’s been around for 136 years, our journey has been a long one and our confidence in Fiji has been unwavering.”
Despite the highs and lows, Ms Price said ANZ had made this commitment.
“This is because we know as the hub of the Pacific, Fiji has a strategic advantage in its geographical position and infrastructure, but most importantly, in its people,” she said.
“We see great strength in the people of Fiji where we believe there is a skillset, energy and commitment in the workforce that sets the nation apart in the region.
“Diwali is one of the most significant cultural events in the Hindu calendar, and also for many of our customers, staff and communities here in Fiji and across the ANZ Group.’
ANZ currently has 24 Fiji nationals on international assignment across their Group.
At the same time, 90 per cent of their managers in Fiji are local, and 40 per cent of them are women.
