Morals used in the history of ancestors behind the festivals celebrated need to be applied in daily life, said Assistant Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Veena Bhatnagar.

“I wish to remind us all that the spirit of Diwali is not for those three days that we engage in the Diwali rituals, it is to be incorporated in our everyday living,” Ms Bhatnagar said.

Ms Bhatnagar was the speaking yesterday as the chief guest at the Senior Citizens Charitable Trust Diwali celebrations at the Nadi School for Special Education.

“We celebrate festivals like these but often forget that every festival has a message, it has meaning, and it has a cue on the moral standards we need to apply in our lives,” Ms Bhatnagar said.

“Diwali is a reminder to us that it is our responsibility to look out for each other sees beyond gender, race, religion, age, abilities and status and do what is right to stay as one people in giving and in kindness.”
