FEA Cautions Electrical Contractors On Safety During Festival Of Lights
Diwali

The following message is from the Fiji Electricity Authority chief executive officer, Hasmukh Patel:

“All electrical installations, while in operation, should be periodically checked by registered electrical contractors for the safety and security in consultation with Fiji Electricity Authority electrical installation inspectors.

“Periodic checks on electrical installations should comply with the wiring requirements of AS/NZS 3000.

“There is a possibility of insulation deterioration and loose wiring connections over the years.

“The law does not allow customers to carry out their own electrical work. Accidents and sometimes fatalities can occur because people are unaware of the safety hazards. People must hire licensed electrical contractors to carry out any electrical work as knowledge and skills are essential.

“During Diwali festival, there will be lots of lights and electrical connections. We would like to urge everyone to take precaution and ensure electrical safety at all times and engage the services of registered electrical contractors where necessary.

“Public safety is of paramount importance to FEA and the Government.

“The Authority on behalf of the board, management and staff members of FEA, extends to you all a joyous, memorable and safe Deepawali.”
