One hundred and seventy individuals in the Macuata Province received a Diwali gift pack from the India Sanmarga Ikya Sangam (TISI) Labasa branch.

The organisation has been distributing Diwali gift packs annually since 2013.

India Sanmarga Ikya Sangam Labasa president, Salend Chetty said, the recipients were their life members, widows, poor, sickly and those who had no family support.

“I remember the first year we distributed 50 Diwali packs containing groceries and over the years the numbers has increased,” Mr Chetty said.

“Diwali is about sharing love and uniting with each other.

“Hence, I would like to encourage the 3500 members of TISI Sangam Labasa branch to celebrate this Diwali in love and unity.”

Velikannu Govinda, a stroke patient of Vunika, Labasa, who was one of the recipients said he was surprised to receive a gift pack for Diwali.

“To celebrate Diwali with my family is a blessing and receiving a gift at this age of 72 is an additional blessing.” Mr Govinda said.
