Teacher Wins  Recipe Competition

Ms Gauri Devi, a teacher of Waidamudamu Sanatan Dharm Primary School outside Labasa Town was astonished to win the Fiji Sun recipe competition.

The mother of two of Nakama, Labasa said she felt so excited to win prize money of $500.

“I am so surprised and happy to win this competition “I didn’t expect to win this,” Mrs Devi said.

“My husband reads Fiji Sun on a daily basis and while sitting with my children over a study table I saw this advertisement and wrote a recipe on how to make peda and mashallow,” Mrs Devi said.

She said she felt so happy because with the prize money she could buy more ingredients to make sweets for Diwali.

“Thank you Fiji Sun for recognising my hardwork and making my Diwali so special.”

The 42-year-old mother thanked her husband and children for supporting and appreciating her talent.

“I love cooking and sometimes I make my own recipe.”  She said members of the family were the examiners who commented on the taste and thus helped her to be a better cook.

 

Rasgulla

 

INGREDIENTS

 

  Rewa full cream milk powder 3 cups

 Rewa yogurt  1 cup

 Rewa butter 2 tbsp

 Self raising flour 1 cup

 Cardmon (Elaichi) 2 tbsp

 Baking powder 1 tbsp

 Ghee for frying

 Sugar  3 cups

 Water 3 cups

 

METHOD

Mix rewa full cream milk powder,self raising flour and baking powder together

Rub the mixture with rewa butter

Add cardmon

Add rewa yogurt and make dough

Make small balls

Fry in ghee

Let it cool

Put the balls in sugar syrup
