The Fiji National Sports Commission is awaiting proper documentations before finalising the contract of new Vodafone Fijian 7s coach Gareth Baber.

Commission chairman Peter Mazey made the confirmation after Fiji Rugby Union chairman Francis Kean announced the appointment of Baber yesterday.

“The commission has nothing to do with the selection of any national coach and was not consulted,” Mazey said.

“Now that FRU have made their selection I assume they will now be in contact with the commission if they wish to apply for a grant to facilitate payment of the new coach.  As we have currently not been contacted I am unaware of their requirements and regret that with any salaries we must respect confidentiality.”

FRU chief executive officer John O’Connor said they are in the process of completing all documentations.

“We are just finalising all processes before we submit our request to the Fijian National Sports Commission next week,” O’Connor said.

Kean acknowledged Government for their support.

“We are thankful to government for the financial assistance,
