Boxing great and multi weight World Champion Manny Pacquiao has had a phenomenal boxing career and is the ultimate story of rags to riches.

At the age of 37 and having shed blood, sweat and tears he now stands head and shoulders above all sporting greats in his beloved home land in the Philippines.

It was not all fun and games for Pacquiao who endured a hard and sometimes brutal upbringing. Born in December 1978, Pacquiao was raised by his single mother and had five other brothers and sisters. He completed his primary school but dropped out of high school financial instabilities and poverty.

At the age of 14 he left his home. His mother didn’t have enough money to feed all her six children. He wandered around and ended up in the capital, Manila, and lived on the streets.

Pacquiao came across a boxing gym and was determined albeit a very raw boxing ability to make a go of this new profession. After 64 amateur fights where he only lost four Pacquiao felt he was now ready to turn professional.

In 1995 at the age of 16 Manny Pacquiao made his professional debut as a boxer and received his first pay.

In 2001 American coach Freddie Roach took over the reigns as his mentor, boxing coach and adviser. The transformation was amazing. Roach not only taught Pacquiao, he showed him what life is and gave give a whole new meaning of it. The rest as they say was history.

Today the list of accomplishments for this gifted boxer is truly amazing. He is a world class boxer, basketball player, businessman, actor, singer, songwriter, preacher, humanitarian worker,  and also a senator in the political system of the Philippines.

In preparation for his career as a politician and lawmaker in the house of representatives, Pacquiao enrolled in a Course in Development, Legislation and Governance at the Development Academy of the Philippines.

In the background of all these phenomenal successes has been his friend and coach Freddie Roach. He advised and counsel Pacquiao like he was his son.

Their combination has phenomenal not only inside the ring, but outside as well. Roach has gone on record as saying Manny Pacquiao is the most caring and compassionate individual he has ever had the pleasure of meeting.

This week was a very emotional week for Pacquiao the politician and humanitarian who put his big heart and his money where his mouth is and paid for over 1000 lovely homes to be built to house and bring shelter to underprivileged families in his hometown. The amount of people housed and taken care of is approximately more than 6000.

Pacquiao wrote –

“I am so happy giving these houses free to my province and every cent paid from my own pocket. As faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms, each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others. I’m still building more houses, because I always believe what the bible says offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. I will never forget where I came from, I thank God for allowing me to help other people”

This incredible act of kindness is very heartwarming and sets an example for others to follow in the footsteps of this compassionate man. It also goes without saying that Freddie Roach would also have given the green light for this project to materialise as this was what they strive towards.
