Money raised to help planned church extension and renovation works

A three-day bazaar for Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Lautoka raised more than $85,000 by yesterday afternoon, but this was expected to surpass $100,000 last night.

Bazaar chairman Seba Ravugani said the target was $57,500.

The bazaar theme this year was aligned to the Universal Catholic Church’s theme of the Year of Mercy and was titled ‘Fun through the Fruits of Mercy’.

The bazaar was held at the St Thomas High School grounds and included a beauty queen contest among 11 of the 19 sectors that make up the Catholic community in Lautoka.

The parishioners also performed items for competition.

The annual event draws all parishioners and former members of the Lautoka Catholic community, and visitors. Last year the parish raised over $107,000.

Mr Ravugani said the money raised this year would be used for the planned extension of the church and renovation works.
