Police are advising members of the public to refrain from using fireworks near busy roads and be considerate to all road users.

Also the practice of throwing fireworks  at, or from moving vehicles is strongly advised against because it is a serious safety concern, says Director Traffic Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mahesh Mishra.

“Diwali is celebrated by everyone and it becomes a multiracial celebrations and one thing that everybody must take note that safety of every person is important,” SSP Mishra said.

“As far as the road is concerned and we are advising all the motorists and pedestrians to take heed of all measures.

“They must ensure that they should not use or light fire crackers while they are travelling or walking on the road because the road is meant for travelling.”

SSP Mishra said they were already anticipating lot of movement of vehicles and people.

“We have been receiving reports of such incidents occurring, and are urging everyone to cooperate and refrain from doing so before someone gets seriously injured,” he said.

“We are also asking parents and guardians to keep a close tab on their children’s use of firecrackers for the sake of everyone’s safety.”

SSP Mishra hopes they will not have any report or accident due to ignorance and negligence.

“We will be monitoring the traffic operations and national operations to increase the visibility on our roads to ensure we protect our innocent people,” he said.

“We will also be monitoring those who are trying to break the law or trying to create a risk to other road users – we will definitely take them to task.”

SSP Mishra has thanked the motorists for cooperating with the Police and he wished everyone a Happy Diwali.
