Suva’s Marist Whites made a clean sweep in winning the men and women’s finals at the 28th Medica Pasifica sponsored- Mates Hockey tournament at Nadovu Park, Lautoka yesterday.

Robust forward Chad Eastgate scored a brace of goals in their 3-2 win over Ventures in the men’s final. They won $600 for their gallant effort.

The side led 3-1 at halftime, with Eastgate and Inoke Veikoso scoring while Ventures goal was scored by national rep Leevan Dutta.

Other national reps Rupeni Fabiano, Rick Bentley and captain Alsace Smith strengthened the Marist side..

“We came from Suva determined to win this tournament and it was a tough final,” Eastgate said.

“It has been three years to win the title and to beat Ventures here in Lautoka.”

In the women’s final, Marist Whites also edged out Ventures 1-0 through winger Talei Senikarawa’s goal in the first spell. They also collected $600.

Marist team manager Chantelle Fraser thanked the Mates team for organising the tournament.

“We have never missed this tournament from the beginning and we are overwhelmed to beat Ventures in the final,” she said.

In the men’s semi-finals Marist beat Rebels 1-0 while Sugar Sticks lost to Ventures 2-0 in an explosive battle.

In the women’s semi-finals, Marist beat Rebels 1-0 while Blue Stars lost to Ventures 5-0.

Tournament organiser Martin Coffin thanked the sponsors for the support.
