Sugar Mill Loader Operator Loses House In Blaze

A loader operator of the Fiji Sugar Corporation at the Labasa Mill was still in shock yesterday when he saw his house on fire after returning home from work.
33-year-old Atish Kumar said by the time he reached his place he saw smoke coming out from the back of his three-bedroom house at Rara Housing, Lajonia outside Labasa.
“I was told by the landowner that fire officers were approximately 20 minutes late after his phone call,” he said.
The National Fire Authority could not make any official comment as the case was still being investigated by their officers.
“The neighbours informed me that they had called the National Fire Authority while my tenants of four (two adults and two children) were still inside,” Mr Kumar said.
“I quickly ran to check on them and found out they were not injured and trying to save some of their household items.”
