Escalator Accident: Toddler Recovering Well After Surgery
A toddler, whose fingers were stuck in an escalator at MHCC Suva on Sunday, is recovering well at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital after undergoing surgery.
The mother, who wished to remain anonymous, yesterday said: “He is doing very well. We will go back (today) for another surgery,” she said.
The incident happened after the boy ran towards the MHCC first floor escalator that was moving downwards.
As he got onto the escalator, his fingers were wedged between the revolving stairs in an attempt to brace himself.
Operation of the escalator was stopped as soon as alert was given. A security personnel and a member of the public assisted in freeing the young boy’s hands using a crow bar.
The mother acknowledged the concerns by representatives of Carpenters Fiji Group Limited, MHCC parent company.
