The Fijian Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC) will discuss on our participation for the Olympic Council of Asia’s, 8th Asian Winter Games in Sapporo, Japan next year.

This was after OCA confirmed last Saturday, in a media statement that Oceania athletes will also take part in the Games set for February, next year.  FASANOC president Joseph Rodan Snr said yesterday they would have dialogues to confirm Fiji’s participation.

“We will have discussions with FASANOC executives to see whether it’s worth taking part since we do not have winter sports in Fiji,” Rodan said.

The OCA was approached by the vice- president of the International Olympic Committee and president of the Australian Olympic Committee John Coates during the OCA General Assembly in Vietnam last month.

Coates says “the Asian Winter Games offered winter sports athletes from Australia, New Zealand and other countries in Oceania the chance to join a high-level international competition on a neighbouring continent and gain experience in their attempts to qualify for the Olympic Winter Games.”
