Two youths, charged with sacrilege, have been remanded by the Nadi Magistrates Court.

Ropate Navitalai, 20, and Apisai Temo, 19, appeared before Magistrate Chandani Dias in a special court sitting yesterday.

The two are charged with two counts of sacrilege and one count of theft.

The court heard on October 25 and October 26 the two unlawfully entered the temple belonging to Avinesh Prasad and Bimlesh Prasad in Nadi.

They allegedly took $345.

Police prosecutor, Corporal Ana Mataniwai, told the court that some of the money had been recovered.

She told the court on October 13, the two unlawfully took assorted items mainly clothes and shoes valued at $703 that belonged to Shobna Kumar.

Only $503 worth of items were recovered by Police.

The two understood the charges and they will seek Legal Aid counsel.

Magistrate Dias remanded them at the Natabua Corrections facility and to appear on November 14 for mention.

 

Remanded for alleged theft

In a separate special sitting, a 33-year-old man of Saunaka appeared for alleged theft before Magistrate Chandni Dias.

The accused, Waisake Naquto, is charged with one count of theft.

The court heard during the period of August and September he unlawfully displaced a total of 10 goats valued at $2100 from his employer Mohammed Iqbal.

He has been remanded in custody.The accused will appear again on November 14.
