Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho says Police will not condone brutality under his watch.

The Police Commissioner said all allegations would be investigated and appropriate action would be taken if they were found to be true.

He was commenting from Indonesia last night on two reports of alleged Police brutality. Brigadier-General Qiliho is attending a conference there.

One report is about a complaint from a man who was in Police custody at Totogo Police Station.

Earlier Chief Operations Officer Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rusiate Tudravu  confirmed that the man, Ricardo Fisher, was arrested for a case of being drunk and disorderly last week.

ACP Tudravu said Fisher was later charged for disorderly behaviour in a Police station while resisting arrest and had appeared in court.

The second complaint is from a Lautoka carjacking accused.

Brigadier-General Qiliho said allegations of Police abuse or brutality were not good for the image of the force. He said all complaints were investigated.

He said it was a co-incidence that the latest claims had been made public while he was away overseas.

He said he did not think that they were deliberate attempts to undermine his reputation as commissioner.

Meanwhile, Brigadier-General Qiliho confirmed last night that he would be attending a course for one year at the Malaysian War College. He said he would leave next month. While he is away, his deputy, Isikeli Ligairi, will act as commissioner.
