Duty reductions for imported buses have led to Shore Buses Limited investing in five new buses worth $1 million from Laksana, a company based in Indonesia.

Speaking at the launching of the new buses, Aman Singh, the Operations manager of Shore Buses Limited said they were happy to invest in this sector.

“We finally decided to take advantage of Government’s assistance to the bus industry by way of reduction of duty for the importation of buses,” he said.

“Now the five buses have arrived, we are waiting for them to be introduced to the public of Lami.”

Mr Singh also said the new buses would definitely improve bus service to the routes they cover.

“These buses will have a major impact in our company and also will provide better and efficient service to the community of Lami.”
Land Transport Authority board chairman, Vijay Maharaj, added he was happy with the inclusion of more buses by Shore Buses as they met the requirements set by LTA.

“LTA is actively involved with the country’s bus companies in setting standards in operations and equipment and a key to this is its Quality Assurance Management System, QAM,” Mr Maharaj said.

“I am happy to say that Shore Buses has been awarded the Quality Assurance Management Award by LTA which is an outstanding achievement.”

Each new bus has a seating capacity of 61 passengers.
