‘The Sangam convention attracts over 10,000 people from Fiji and overseas with TIV a youth soccer tournament played over a four-day weekend.’

Labasa will host the diamond jubilee celebrations and the Then India Sanmarga Ikya (TISI) Sangam 2017 national convention next Easter.

This was revealed by the TISI Sangam chief executive Jai Narayan during the diamond jubilee celebration of Then India Valibar Sangam (youth branch of TISI) in Labasa on Wednesday night.

“The TISI Sangam management council in 2015 approved Labasa as the venue for the 2017 national convention to be held over the Easter weekend,” Mr Narayan said.

“The convention has been scheduled to mark the 75th anniversary of the Labasa TIV Sangam.

“The Sangam convention attracts over 10,000 people from Fiji and overseas with a TIV youth soccer tournament played over a four-day weekend.

“Together with that we have netball for Marthar Sangam and some other sports activities.”

Approximately 60 teams participate in the tournament and this includes many overseas teams from Australia, US, New Zealand and Canada.

The TIV national executives have successfully initiated a sponsorship scheme especially for those from Cyclone Winston affected regions.

Mr Narayan said sponsorship of $30,000 had been provided by Tour Managers Group.

“Labasa is the biggest branch of TISI Sangam,” Mr Narayan said.

“Being part of the diamond jubilee celebration of the Northern TIV Sangam is a great honour.”

Mr Narayan thanked the organisers for the four-day 75th Northern TIV Sangam mini convention at Subrail Park in Labasa this week.

“Such events promote unity among families and friends,” he said.
