Suva Ready For Marathon Challenge

The Suva Marathon Club has planned another exciting marathon event, building on from the success of the Suva Marathon in July.
Suva Challenge 2016 should see the Nasese seawall filled with runners determined to keep running or walking as a regular part of their active lifestyle tomorrow.
The runners will challenge themselves for the individual half-marathon – male and female – in the under-19, open (20-39) and senior (40+) age categories, and a mixed team marathon with the route starting from Cakobau Road (behind Albert Park).
SportsWorld is sponsoring the prizes for the event. Ernst and Young – who’s bosses challenged the rest of the staff to beat them in July – will support the Suva Challenge by providing all the water stations and Munro Leys are providing the marshals for the event.
For runners, like Suva Marathon Club’s Brian Hennessy and Munro Leys’ Nicholas Barnes, the Suva Challenge will be part of their training for the Queenstown Marathon in two weeks’ time.
“I’ve managed to persuade a few runners from FMC Pacific to join me as part of the team event. I’ve run the Suva and Sydney marathons this year and will be running the Queenstown Marathon so it’s great to have these events organised regularly and I’m trying to get as many of my colleagues involved as possible,” Hannessy said.
While for another local runner, Raj Prasad, Suva Challenge is about making a name for himself.
“I’m taking part in the Suva Challenge to unleash my true potential in running and to make a mark for myself among Fiji’s top athletes,” he said.
“As more and more people make use of Suva’s great recreation facilities, the Suva Marathon Club is delighted to once again partner with the Suva City Council and hopes that Suva will turn out to participate or watch the event.
The event is being held on the same day as the Hilton School Wheelbarrow event so spectators will have a great event to watch while their friends and relatives are running. Runners are encouraged to raise money for a worthy cause such as the school or their other charity partner Cure Kids Fiji and it gives runners the opportunity to change lives and give back to the community.
Entry is free for the individual half marathon and mixed marathon, while a registration fee of $50 applies to corporate marathon teams.
Come and join the Suva Challenge; whether it be running or walking or better yet cheering your team!
