The efforts of business-houses in Labasa have led to the revival of bowling.

This weekend sees the first official competition gets underway at the Labasa Bowling Club.

Club secretary Suresh Sharma said it’s their first official competition after two years.

“The revival was initiated by growing interest among upcoming bowlers and veteran players,” Sharma said.

“We have been having discussions for four weeks and running competition on trial basis. We began with Satya’s Plumbing sponsored- competition comprising 14 teams playing in two pool games over a period of two days in a week. Next week we will conduct the quarter-finals.”

Lorna Robinson, 57, a veteran bowler said, she is excited with the competition.

“I have been bowling for more than 30 years because I love this sport.

“It feels so good to be around some old and new players on the field,”she said.

“For me it is not about winning the competition but more of enjoying the company of other participants. I’m thankful to the Labasa business houses for reviving the competition and I hope we can see more women participating.”
