Fiji and Vanuatu female police officers are looking to strengthen ties through sports and other exchange programmes.

Together with the Fiji Corrections officers,  they took part in the first ever netball tournament at the National Netball Centre, Suva yesterday.

Most of our national netball reps like Alisi Waqa, Vaiti Waqatabu and Afa Rusivakula took part in the tournament.

Games committee spokesperson Acting Superintendent Sala Radaniva said this was the first step.

“This is the first time and we have also extended the invitation to the Fiji Corrections Service,”she said.

“Their visit is the first of its kind and the challenge has been laid that they are expecting the women’s team from Fiji Police to travel to Vanuatu next year.

“The initial talks were done during the Melanesian Spearhead Group meeting last year with the Police Commissioner.

“The plan to is to enhance partnership between the Police agencies, exchange programmes with how best we can address women policing in the region

She added the delegates from Vanuatu arrived into the country on Wednesday and will be involved in activities before they leave next week.

 

Results:  1 Fiji Corrections (12pts); 2 Fiji Police One (10); 3 Vanuatu Police One (6); 4 Fiji Police  Two (6); 5 Police Wives One (6); 6 Police Wives Two (2); 7.  Vanuatu Police  Two.
