FSC Labasa Mill Confident Of Meeting Crushing Target Of 650,000 Tonnes

The Fiji Sugar Corporation Labasa mill general manager Karia Christopher is confident that they will be able to meet their target for the 2016 crushing season.
“Our target was to get a supply of 650,000 tonnes of cane this year,” Mr Christopher said.
“As of yesterday, we had crushed 645,000 tonnes of cane and produced 72,000 tonnes of sugar.”
“I am very happy with the current result and I am confident that before the mill closes this Sunday we will meet our target.
“So far everything is going as planned and we hope we will have a successful closure of the mill.”
Mr Christopher said they are going to close the mill as scheduled by the Fiji Sugar Tribunal and that is on this Sunday.
“I don’t think there would be a need for extension as there is not much standover cane in the fields,” he said.
“However, we would like to continue to encourage farmers, especially those who are yet to supply their cane to the mill, to make the best use of whatever days is available.
“We don’t want any farmers to be left behind and neither do we want to see them rushing to the mill after the closure.”
