Newly elected Labasa campus Fiji National University Students Association president Jone Rokotuna believes in prompt resolution to problems for a good environment to be maintained.

“I want to create an environment where students can easily communicate with their lecturers and FNU staff related to their studies and various activities organised at the campus,” Mr Rokotuna said.

“The channel of communication needs to be followed and sudden upcoming issues and problems should be heard and resolved immediately.”

Although being a person with disability using elbow crutches for support, this did not deter the 24-year-old from standing for the recent elections.

Originally from Mali Island in the Macuata Province but brought up at Nayaca Sub Division in Labasa, Mr Rokotuna urges his fellow students to support him as he planned to strengthen network and communication.

The second year Diploma in Applied Computing student said issues from students needed to be dealt with such as when students find difficulties in submitting their assignments on time, unable to pay fees on time, need of extra tutorial classes and other unexpected things.

Mr Rokotuna is the president of the Northern Youth with Disability and Supporters Association which is the youth wing of the Fiji National Council for Disabled Persons.

He is the executive of the House of Colours which fights against discrimination and gender based violence.

He is a member of Youth for Integrity that advocates against corruption.

Also he is a member of Youth Champs for Mental Health addressing stigma and mental health associated issues.
