Thirty Government Officials To Attend Mediation Training And Accreditation Assessment

Thirty government officials have been selected by the Employment Ministry to attend mediation training and accreditation assessment for three days beginning next week in Suva.
Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Jone Usamate highlighted that the training will be conducted in association with the Singapore Mediation Centre (SMC) for the professional development of these officers.
“Of these, 12 participants from the Employment Ministry will be assessed for accreditation as mediators,” he said.
“The training will involve hands-on and experiential learning, with combination of theory and practical application of mediation process through simulation exercises,” he said.
Minister Usamate highlighted that the training will assist Government departments that are now covered under the amended Employment Relations Promulgation, to resolve conflicts and disputes in their respective settings more effectively.
He also added that participants will be fully conversant with the structured mediation process based on best international practice of Interest Based Model (IBM) upon completing the training, which is currently adopted by the Ministry’s Mediation Service.
The training will be conducted by two experts from Singapore Mediation Centre (SMC) a leading and professional international training institution and a subsidiary of the Singapore Academy of Law.
