Tokasa Eyes Record Shot In Chow Games

Tokasa Waqanisauvaki is aiming to break the Under-13 girls shot put record during the Central Division FMF Chow Games on November 18-19 at the ANZ Stadium, Suva.
The 13-year-old who is representing the Tailevu Zone is throwing 12 metres in training. The record for the U13 girls is at 11.58m.
This is the first time the Gusuisavu, Naitasiri native is taking up the event and is hoping to win her first gold medal and also break the record.
“I am very excited as I’ve been doing well in training,” Waqanisauvaki said.
“I know the record is 11.58m and during training I have been throwing well so that is a positive for me as it is only two weeks to go until the games.
“Throwing 12 metres during training is one thing and throwing on the day during the games is another so I need to stay positive and be consistent.
“I don’t know the throwers from other schools, all I know is how I have been progressing and improving.
“It won’t be easy for me because I know that there are other good throwers out there so it will be a challenge for me.
“But I hope I do well on game day and hopefully win my first gold medal and break a record in the process.”
Waqanisauvaki is enjoying learning about shot put and is hoping to continue taking up the sport in future.
“I only took up shot put because I wanted to be involved in a sporting activity, I did not know that I would be throwing like this,” she said.
“If I train hard and focus I know I can go far and one day I would like to represent Fiji.
The Tailevu Zone will be wrapping up their training next week.
