Western Zeniths proved too strong for the Stallion Starlets with a 41-36 win in the first round of the Digicel Punjas Netball Super League in Suva yesterday.

National reps of veteran Matila Waqanidrola and Maria Lutua could not help their Nadroga side as the young Lautoka team continued to take the lead in all quarters of the game.

Speaking to SUNsports Zeniths assistant team manger Va Koroivauto said this was a good start for their young players.

The Zeniths had Fijian Pearls representative Alisi Naiqiri and national Under-20 players of Verenaisi  Sawana,  Alisi Galo and Maliana Rusivakula.

“We had two weeks to prepare and we mainly focused on our fitness,” she said.

“Even though we had  little time to train together we still had that bond in the team and I believe that pulled us through

“Playing against the giants from Nadroga as they had more national reps whereas most of our players were just under 20 but we didn’t let that distract us. We had faith in our girls.”

Koroivauto added that they are confident of doing well in the tournament and should be the team to watch.

“Our girls are young but are very talented and I think they will do it again next week.”

Zeniths face Satellite Divas and Central Swifts in the double round of games in Lautoka next Saturday.
