Despite having a thriving family business, Anita Cheer is determined to make her own mark.

The 54-year-old has found a way to take a break from routine and discover a new recreation – making jewellery.

Speaking at the Na Koro Market at the Fiji Museum, Suva, yesterday she said: “We have a cake shop in Samabula and I help my husband Michael Cheer to run our cake shop, but I am more interested in making and selling jewellery.

“I want to be independent and have my own identity. I do not want to be a burden on my husband all the time.”

Ms Cheer said a little encouragement from the Na Koro Market organisers set her off in a new adventure.

“I used to sell readymade jewelleries but I was inspired by the Na Koro Market organiser Peter Sipeli to make them myself and then sell it,” she said.

For the past three years Ms Cheer has been making her own jewellery and selling them.

“I believe Na Koro Market showcases Fijian made products and talents of local people,” she said.

“Na Koro Market is a good place for me to sell my jewellery because it showcases my talent to people.”

Ms Cheer has just bought a new vehicle and is paying for it through her jewellery sales.
