Fijiana XVs captain Lailanie Burnes pleads to Fijians to support the team as they prepare for the second round of the Women’s Rugby World Cup in Hong Kong on December 9.

Fijiana put up a brave performance defeating Papua New Guinea in the Oceania Women’s Championship last Saturday 37-10 at the ANZ Stadium.  “PNG gave us a tough competition and I’m just proud of the Fijiana team,”she said.

“We said before coming into the match there is time and season for everything and Saturday was our time and season to show what we have. We are happy to come out and achieve our goal,” Burnes said.

“Rugby is always a male dominated sport but we are able to show Fiji that women can play rugby as well.

“We need Fiji’s support as we prepare for the Hong Kong repechage.”

The women will take one week break before resuming preparation under the  guidance of interim coach Seremaia Bai, Kele Leawere and Alifereti Doviverata.

“After one week break our aim now is perfecting our skills, we want to thank everyone who has been supporting us.

“For me personally this is an amazing experience and a dream come true since this is always our aim to go out there and represent your country,” Burnes added.
