Competitors have started to wow the judges and spectators with their creativity and originality in the biggest cook-off in the country.

Over 300 chefs from across the country are participating in the 2016 Moffat Salon Culinaire which is a signature event of the Fiji Chefs Association.

It is held in conjunction with the Vodafone and Westpac sponsored HOTEC tradeshow at the Sheraton Fiji Resort.

Fiji Chef Association president, Davendra Reddy, said this year they have more than 338 participants in the three and a half day event.

“This year seems to be a bigger challenge and more than 338 participants. There are one or two from each property participating and the competition ends on Friday.”

There are categories for 25 classe.

The three major awards are Pastry Chef of the Year, Fiji Junior Chef of the Year and Fiji Chef of the Year.

Mr Reddy said: “This annual festival is all about our chefs from around the country coming together to mingle and this is also the place where they can display their talents and skills.”

The event is sponsored by Bakels, Goodman Fielder, Fiji Gas, Fiji National University, Gibson Freight and Pacific Z-tralasia.

“We have a lot of exposure for the chefs and a big thanks to our sponsors who come and talk to each other to gain a lot of knowledge and give the motivation drive to grow,” Mr Reddy said.

The Piazza Doro Fiji Barista of the Year will also be held as well as future local culinary master chefs!

Meanwhile, the first day featured Classic Local Dish with Modern Twist – Live class at the Sheraton Fiji Resort on Denarau yesterday.
