The taxi driver who allegedly raped a 14-year-old Labasa school student last week is still on the run.

Yesterday, Police sounded another appeal to the public to help them find the rape suspect.

Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro said officers have been tasked to find the suspect.

They are appealing to anyone who may have information or seen the student being picked up by the suspect to immediately call Crime Stoppers on 919.

“It is alleged that last Wednesday morning, the student was on her way to school when she was picked up by an unknown taxi driver and taken to a secluded area where the incident took place,” Ms Naisoro said.

“The matter was reported to Police by the victim’s teacher.”

Meanwhile, Northern Divisional Police Commander Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shiri Bhawan Singh said as they go deeper into investigations, they are getting more information.

“Right now we can’t reveal the colour of the vehicle or the description of the driver,” SSP Singh said.

“The medial examination of the student had been done and we can’t reveal the result as this will hinder our investigation.

“As we continue with our investigation we are appealing to the public to come forward to us with information,” SSP Singh said.
