Winning Fijiana XVs rugby captain Lailanie Burnes was given a treat by staff of South Sea Cruises yesterday. Burnes is the company’s sales manager.

South Sea Cruises chief executive officer Peter Duncan said he was immensely proud of Burnes’ achievements.

“Lailanie’s success on the weekend is a credit to her as she is an exceptionally hard worker, passionate and inspiring,” he said.

Burnes said she was honoured to have led the team.

“It feels amazing, I am so proud of our girls who went out there. We have been working and training hard, and (the win is) the outcome of all that hard work.

“It just came together nicely and I am so proud of them and what we have achieved. It is a history making event and it feels great. I love rugby, it runs in my blood, but I also love getting up each day with the privilege of promoting Fiji’s best tourism experiences- that’s a pretty good work life balance if you ask me!” she said.

The Fijiana XVs beat Papua New Guinea 37-10 and qualify to the second round of the Women’s Rugby World Cup in Hong Kong on December 9.
